‘Remain committed to elevating ties’, says PM Modi after meeting UK Foreign Secretary Lammy in New Delhi

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who is on a two-day visit to India, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday as London and New Delhi continue to nurture the bilateral ties in diverse fields.

Following the meeting, Modi thanked Lammy, and the appreciated UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for giving priority to the UK-India partnership.

“A pleasure to meet UK FS @DavidLammy. Appreciate the priority accorded by PM @Keir_Starmer to broaden and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” part of the Indian leader’s tweet read.

“Remain committed to elevating the ties. Welcome the bilateral Technology Security Initiative and the desire to conclude a mutually beneficial FTA,” Modi said.

Just weeks after assuming office as the new UK Foreign Secretary, Lammy reached India on Wednesday for his first official visit to the country.

“The UK and India share a unique living bridge that enriches both our countries,” he said after his meeting with Modi.

“We are working together to accelerate climate action while creating opportunities for British and Indian businesses,” the UK official added.

Lammy also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. “Thank you @DrSJaishankar for the warm welcome. The UK-India relationship is indispensable.

“It’s fantastic to be in Delhi as we announce a UK-India Technology Security Initiative to boost investment, create jobs, and address future challenges,” he tweeted following his meeting with the Indian EAM.

After his India visit, the UK Foreign Secretary will attend the key ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the country.
