The Ministry of Health announced the confirmation of 12 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of 12 pm on March 11, bringing the total number of infected in the country to 177. Of these, 96 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
4 RSAF servicemen amongst new cases
Amongst the 12 new cases identified on Wednesday are four Regular servicemen from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) who were on official duty in Marseille, France between February 15 and March 7. As per a statement by the Ministry of Defence, the servicemen returned to Singapore on March 8 and developed symptoms soon thereafter.
Three of the servicemen are currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), and one is warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. None of the four servicemen had been at their workplace or other SAF premises since their return from France.
Two other RSAF Regular servicemen on the same overseas duty as the affected servicemen have also returned to Singapore and are currently well, but placed on Home Quarantine as they were close contacts.
The SAF had already reduced its overseas training deployments and exercises in view of the COVID-19 outbreak, and will continue to adjust such activities where necessary depending on the conditions within the host country, said the statement.
12 new confirmed cases
Cases 167 and 178: Case 178 is an imported case involving a 37 year-old male Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder. He had been in the Philippines from February 11-19, and again from February 23 to March 2 to visit a relative with pneumonia who has since passed away. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH). He is a family member of Case 167.
Case 167 is a 35 year-old female Filipino national who is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and is a family member of Case 178. She had been in the Philippines from February 11-17. She is currently warded in an isolation room at NTFGH.
She is employed as a staff nurse at NTFGH and had been at work prior to hospital admission. She stays at Jurong East Street 21.
Case 168: A 47 year-old male Singapore Citizen who has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He is currently warded in an isolation room at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH).
Prior to hospital admission, he had mostly stayed at his home at Rivervale Street.
Case 169: A 40 year-old male Singapore Citizen who had been in France from February 15 to March 7. He is currently warded in an isolation room at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). He is a contact of Cases 165, 173 and 175, and is one of the imported cases who had been in France on official duty.
Prior to hospital admission, he had gone to the Health Promotion Board for an unrelated matter. He is a Republic of Singapore Air Force serviceman but had not gone to work since returning to Singapore. He stays at Yishun Street 81.
Case 170: An imported case involving a 56 year-old female Indonesian national who had arrived in Singapore on March 9. She is currently warded in an isolation room at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). She is a family member of Case 152.
She reported the onset of symptoms on March 6 while in Indonesia, and presented at SGH on March 9 after arrival in Singapore.
Case 171: An imported case involving a 27 year-old male Singapore Citizen who had been in France from February 25 to March 1, and Spain from March 1 to 6. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
Case 172: A 42 year-old female Philippines national who is a Singapore Work Pass Holder, and had been in the Philippines from February 27 to March 2. She was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
Case 173: A 31 year-old male Singapore Citizen who had been in France from February 15 to March 7. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. He is a Republic of Singapore Air Force serviceman, and is a contact of Cases 165, 169 and 175. He is one of the imported cases who had been in France on official duty. He had not gone to work since returning to Singapore.
Case 174: A 67 year-old female Singapore Citizen who has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. She is linked to the cluster involving the private dinner function at SAFRA Jurong.
Case 175: An imported case of a 44 year-old male Singapore Citizen who had been in France from February 15 to March 7. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. He is a Republic of Singapore Air Force serviceman, and is a contact of Cases 165, 169 and 173. He is one of the imported cases who had been in France on official duty. He had not gone to work since returning to Singapore.
Case 176: An imported case involving a 37 year-old female British national who had been in Japan from February 24 to March 4, and the UK from March 4 to 8. She was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
Case 177: An imported case involving a 26 year-old male Singapore Citizen who had been in the US from February 14 to 24, the UK from February 28 to March 1, and France from March 2 to 7. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on March 11 morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
The MOH has also said that of the 82 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving while nine are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
