As per food delivery app Zomato, Biryani emerged as the go to dish for foodies in India. The company reported a whopping 100,980,615 orders of this rice dish. The numbers were shared via a newsletter on December 27, 2023.
While biryani made a mark, what was India’s second and third most preferred food? Italian delicacy pizza with 74,530,036 orders took the second spot.
Noodle bowls were placed third. It sold 45,555,490 units.
Bangalore and Mumbai spent most on food
When it came to food, metros Mumbai and Bangalore were placed above the rest as they didn’t hold back while splurging on dining. Zomato user Hanees placed 3,580 orders in 2023, earning the individual ‘the nation’s biggest foodie’ tag. The Mumbai resident ordered over nine times daily.
If that is crazy, wait for the next one. Apparently, a person from Bangalore sent 1,389 gifts worth Rs 6.61 lakhs (USD 7,931) using the app.
Another Mumbai resident took home the crown with 121 orders placed in a single day. With all the numbers, you must be wondering what’s the biggest order placed in 2023? Well, a person from Bangalore holds the yearly record with an order worth Rs 46,273 (USD 555).
Additionally, Bangalore had the most breakfast orders, while Delhi won the late night munching war.
