The British South India Council of Commerce (BSICC), is partnering with Europe India Centre for Business and Industry (EICBI) and UK Karnataka Business Chamber to organise India Manufacturing Summit on July 18, 2017 at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London.
This will be the 18th summit, with the previous ones having engaged around 2,350 delegates so far to promote trade and investment between UK and India. This summit will be chaired by the Hon Virendra Sharma, MP from Ealing Southall, who is the patron of BSICC.
“Summits like these help in bringing together various stakeholders who are keen to have a strong relationship between UK and India in one platform and since the summits do attract other members of Parliament and Members of House of Lords, it provides an opportunity for the delegates to discuss their issues with the MPs,” Sharma said.
The summit is expected to gather around 100 delegates including Members of the House of Lords and House of Commons, representatives from European companies and Indian companies who are interested in learning about the current business opportunities in India's manufacturing sector.
Some of the UK MPs who are expected to attend the summit include:
- Lord David Howell – Ex – Minister of State (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) (International Energy Policy), Ex – Minister of State (Department of Energy), UK
- Lord Swraj Paul – Chairman, Caparo Group Ltd
- Lord Waverley – Chairman, SupplyFinder.com
- Hon Virendra Sharma MP
- Hon Bob Blackman MP
- Hon Steven Pound MP
- Hon Marion Fellows
- Hon Angus Brendan MacNeil MP
- Hon Chi Onwurah Labour MP
“Indian government is giving a strong impetus to the manufacturing sector through the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Through this summit, we hope to share business opportunities for UK/European companies to invest in India’s manufacturing sector and let companies know about the regulatory policies which have been relaxed to facilitate investments and ease of doing business,” said Sujit Nair, Director/Chief Coordinator, BSICC.
The summit allows people from various industry sectors of the UK to interact with Indian executives and manufacturers and develop channels of trade and communication.
“We understand that the Indian Advanced Engineering market is continuing to grow and this is a great opportunity for MTA members, and the wider industry, to make new contacts or further already strong relationships,” said James Fudge, Head of Events and Member Services, Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA). They are one of the bodies who regularly attend the summit. A full agenda of the summit can be found here.
The Welding Institute (TWI) is sponsoring The India Manufacturing Summit. It is one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organisations, with expertise in materials joining and engineering processes as applied in industry.
“TWI has been active in India since 1988, ranging from training and technology transfer to bespoke projects for companies looking to implement best practice, new products or innovative processes. The opportunities for British manufacturers in India are abundant. We look forward to seeing UK and Indian TWI Industrial Members at the summit, where they will gain first-hand knowledge of the evolving manufacturing landscape in India,” said Chris Wiseman, Industry Sector Manager – Corporate Development at TWI.
