A 73-year-old woman from China, Liu Yujia, admitted into a hospital in the UAE after being infected by the 2019-nCoV Wuhan coronavirus, has recovered, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, UAE said.
The grandmom had contracted the virus in China and travelled to the UAE, where she began to present with symptoms.
Consul General Li Xuhang of China and Dr Hussein Al Rand, assistant under-secretary for health centres and clinics at the ministry, visited Liu and congratulated her on her full recovery.
Dr. Rand confirmed that Yujia had tested negative for the 2019-nCoV detection test administered after her recovery while adding that she had received proper health care in accordance with World Health Organisation standards. He went on to note that the UAE has taken all necessary measures to deal with the newly announced coronavirus cases.
Li praised the UAE’s healthcare system for helping Yujia recover and expressed joy at the solidarity between the UAE and Peoples Republic of China in confronting the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
Yujia too thanked the UAE's healthcare authorities for the treatment provided to her and the care provided to her family members as well as to whoever was tested positive for the new coronavirus in the country.
Seven cases of coronavirus have been reported in the UAE. The first four cases were a Chinese family from Wuhan, which included a mother, father, a nine-year-old girl and her grandmother Yujia, who has since recovered.
A few days later, the fifth, a Chinese man had the virus diagnosed after arriving in the UAE from the virus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan. The final two cases were a Chinese citizen and a Filipino.
Those still suffering from the illness are being cared for under quarantine.
