One of the biggest political figures in India's struggle for independence in 1947, Mahatma Gandhi was the man behind the Satyagraha movement and the civil disobedience, based on non-violence. The entire world geared up to commemorate the occasion. Many countries have held a series of events to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary on Wednesday.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi joined the nation in paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Singapore marked the occasion with a solemn ceremony at the Clifford Pier, where on March 28, 1948, some of Gandhi’s ashes were scattered at sea.

Singapore

A number of events were planned to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2019 across the country. From padyatras to cleanliness drives, the celebrations transcended political, religious and communal boundaries.
