United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that getting infected with COVID-19 was a "blessing from God" that exposed him to experimental treatments which he vowed would become free for all Americans.
In his first video message since leaving hospital, Trump emphasised how well he’s been feeling in his recovery process – a move that most feel is a bid to revitalise his election campaign with many polls showing him lagging behind Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
"I think this was a blessing from God that I caught it. This was a blessing in disguise," Trump said. He also said that using the medication from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc had allowed him to experience first-hand how effective it could be.
"I want to get for you what I got. And I'm going to make it free," Trump said.
Trump has come under criticism for his behaviour since he contracted the virus, which include exposing his Secret Service personnel when he chose to briefly leave the hospital in a motorcade to wave at gathered supporters, as well as taking off his mask despite being contagious as soon he returned to the White House from the Walter Reed hospital.
He reportedly went back to the Oval Office on Wednesday, with a White House official saying that the president entered the office from the Rose Garden to avoid walking through the White House hallways and possibly exposing others to the coronavirus.
As per Trump’s doctor Sean Conley, the president has had no COVID-19 symptoms for the past 24 hours.
