The Indian ministry of home affairs on Friday announced new rules for OCI card-holders which will require them to take special permission from the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or the Indian Mission concerned, for missionary, Tabligh, mountaineering or journalistic activities.
OCI card holders will also need to take permission for research, internship or employment in any foreign diplomatic missions or foreign government organisations in India.
They will also require a special permit to visit places that are classified as protected, restricted or prohibited areas.
The new rules have also granted parity to OCI card holders with Indian nationals for airfare tariffs for domestic travel and entry fees to national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, national monuments, historical sites and museums in India.
