Indian cricketer Shubman Gill is set to be the voice of Indian Spiderman Pavitr Prabhakar in the HIndi dub of the upcoming animated Sony Pictures blockbuster ‘Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse’.
The sequel to 2018's acclaimed 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', will release on June 2, 2023 in 10 languages all through the country; in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam. “Thrilled to have the talented Shubman Gill as the voice of our very own – Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar in Spider-Man: Across the #SpiderVerse. Trailer dropping soon!” Sony said in a statement.
Sony released a minute-long trailer featuring Gill today on YouTube. It shows people in a recording studio speaking to an unseen person who is apparently climbing the walls, urging him to get down and get to work. The camera then cuts to Gill in a superhero landing pose before he delivers the character’s iconic lines.
“Let’s go guys! Whether you’re a cricketer or a superhero, with great power comes great responsibility,” Gill says, as the iconic Spiderman theme plays in the background.
Gill becomes the first Indian sports personality to lend his voice for one of the biggest Hollywood franchises, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Deadpool actor Karan Soni will be the character's voice actor in English.
'Across the Spider-Verse' will continue the story of Miles Morales. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K Thompson are co-directing from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II', the already announced threequel in the 'Spider-Verse' series, has also been given an official release date of March 29, 2024. Catch the Shubman Gill trailer below:
