Police in Greater Noida, a city that falls under Uttar Pradesh but is part of the National Capital Region around India’s capital Delhi, have busted a meth lab being run by an African gang, and seized narcotics worth INR200 crore. Nine Africans were arrested in the operation.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh said today that during the raid, the police party also seized raw materials that “could have been used to produce methamphetamine worth another INR100 crore”.
Singh said that the methamphetamine seized by the police was “in the white, purest form”. The seized meth made in the lab weighed about 46kg. The white crystalline structure is what gives the narcotic substance its name “crystal meth”.
The African gang was running its racket from a three-storey house in Greater Noida, where they were tenants.
