OpenAI has named former Twitch CEO and co-founder Emmett Shear as the company’s interim CEO, media reports said.
It also stated that former CEO Sam Altman, who was sacked a few days ago, will not return to the company which created the ChatGPT bot.
Emmett Shear, the co-founder of Twitch, a popular video game streaming platform Amazon acquired in 2014, replaced Mira Murati, who was named interim CEO in a management reshuffle on Friday (November 18, 2023), a person familiar with the development told The Washington Post.

Shear’s surprise appointment comes after OpenAI’s four-person board refused to step down and let Altman return, sources told The Verge.
OpenAI on Friday (November 17, 2023) sacked CEO Sam Altman, prompting the co-founder Greg Brockman to quit soon after.
The company said in a statement: “Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”
