Ranbir Kapoor’s much anticipated film Animal has managed to live up to its expectations. In the 13 days since its release on December 1, 2023, this Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed film has turned into a box-office juggernaut, collecting a whooping 757.73 crores (USD 90.91 million) worldwide.
While Kapoor’s film has been panned as misogynistic by a section of movie goers and critics, he has also received praise for his performance. Now, ace film maker and Kapoor’s father-in-law Mahesh Bhatt has showed praise on the 41-year-old actor.
“I can’t speak about my kids, praising your own face won’t look nice. But yes, if the world is saying so, then it feels great,” Bhatt said.
Indeed, Alia has made me proud, but with the latest success of Animal, Ranbir is making me prouder.

Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot with Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt in 2022 after a brief period of romance.
“Alia has indeed made me proud with the kind of films she has chosen to be part of. Yes, Alia winning the National Award, which is the most prestigious award, has brought in loads of proud moments in the family,” Mahesh Bhatt added.
The director, known for cult hits like Sadak and Aashiqui, also spoke about the importance of box-office numbers. He said the discussion on whether a movie should only cater to the aesthetics or make money, has been going on for ages.
“Box office is also important,” he said.
“I think the intent with which you start making movies is very important. I personally feel that if you achieve both, creative plus box office success, then your motto is achieved, but that’s a rare phenomenon,” Bhatt added.
Meanwhile, Animal is tipped to join the INR 1,000 crore club soon, given its unstoppable growth in the last two weeks.
