As the summer blockbuster season kicks off, this week two Bollywood films are set to clash at the Box Office tomorrow. Yash Raj Films’ Meri Pyaari Bindu, hyped over the past few months with an innovative teaser release schedule, will be releasing on the same day as the oft-postponed third installment in Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar film series.
Meri Pyaari Bindu is an Indian Hindi romantic comedy film, written by Suprotim Sengupta and directed by Akshay Roy. It features Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles. The chapter-by-chapter release of five trailers created a healthy buzz prior to its release.
Khurrana plays author Abhimanyu Roy, who is stuck with a writer’s block after his girlfriend Bindu (Chopra) and he parted ways. He returns to his roots to write an old-fashioned love story based on his memories with Bindu, and the movie takes the audience down memory lane in a quirky series of incidents from their lives.
Sarkar 3, the third movie to feature Amitabh Bachchan as Subhash Nagre, the shady political leader who goes by the eponymous nickname of Sarkar. The movie is the latest in a series of Indian political drama thriller films, set in the world of Marathi politics and crime, co-produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The first part Sarkar released in 2005, and the second part Sarkar Raj in 2008.
Originally scheduled for release in March, Eros Entertainment delayed the launch till May 12, causing much of the hype around the film to fizzle. However, the Big B is a surefire box office draw and the film already has a core of fans carried over from the first two instalments. Sarkar 3 also stars Ronit Roy, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Amit Sadh and Yami Gautam.
Of course, the pressure is on both films to compete with mega blockbusters Baahubali 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, which are sitting aloof on top of the Box Office lists.
