Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore)'s flagship Renaissance Engineering Programme has tied up with Canada’s University of British Columbia (UBC) as its fourth partner, the university said in a press statement on May 11, 2017.
The Renaissance Engineering Programme (REP) is a dual-degree programme that blends engineering with business and humanities. Students graduate with a Bachelor and Master’s degree in 4.5 years.
One of the key features of REP is that students get to choose to study at a top overseas university in their third year. Besides UBC in Vancouver, the other three universities they can choose from are Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, and University of California, Berkeley and Northwestern University in the United States. They will also do their internship in leading companies in the United States, Europe or United Kingdom.
"The University of British Columbia is known for its technology-enabled teaching and innovative learning methods which brings about a strong sense of engagement between the faculty and students," said Professor Kam Chan Hin, NTU Deputy Provost (Education). “UBC’s uniqueness lies in its strong cross-disciplinary collaboration which is a good match with the broad-based, inter-disciplinary nature of the REP.”
“We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with NTU, one of the world’s great universities,” said Dr Marc Parlange, Dean of UBC’s Faculty of Applied Science. “UBC shares NTU’s belief in the importance of exposing students to different cultures, perspectives and experiences, and we look forward to helping shape the next generation of global engineering leaders.”
The two universities also have a joint research centre – the NTU-UBC Research Centre of Excellence in Active Living for the Elderly (LILY). This centre focuses on designing computing technologies for the elderly so they can enjoy an active and independent lifestyle. REP students will get to participate in projects under this joint centre.
