Sam Altman, the Founder and CEO of OpenAI, saw his net worth reach $2 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
However, it’s noteworthy that despite his leadership in the AI research firm, the company’s financial prosperity doesn’t factor into this valuation.
This marks the first evaluation of the wealth of the 38-year-old by the index.
Altman emerged as a prominent figure in artificial intelligence due to his position as CEO of OpenAI, a company recently valued at $86 billion.
Bloomberg reported that he has iterated that he does not own equity in OpenAI.
The report added that a greater part of his traceable wealth is in a network of Venture capital (VC) funds and start-up investments.
Altman’s wealth is expected to increase with the upcoming initial public offering of Reddit, where he holds a major stake as one of the largest shareholders, the report said.
In a separate development, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman, alleging a breach of contractual agreements dating back to 2015 when Musk offered support in founding the ChatGPT-maker.
According to the lawsuit filed on Thursday in San Francisco, Altman and OpenAI’s co-founder Greg Brockman initially approached Musk intending to create an open-source platform.
The lawsuit argues that the open-source model was meant to ensure the development of artificial intelligence technology for the benefit of humanity.
