Acting against the alleged sex scandal of Prajwal Revanna, his party, Janata Dal (Secular), has suspended the Member of Parliament from the outfit, reports said on Tuesday. Revanna, who has fled to Europe after the news broke of his alleged crime, has also received a show-cause notice by the JD(S). The sex scandal involves hundreds of graphic videos of women that were allegedly shot by Revanna. As per reports, a pen drive containing close to 3,000 explicit files — videos, photographs and screenshots of chats with multiple women — is being investigated by officials.
Revanna is the sitting MP from Hassan in southern India’s Karnataka. He is the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. The 33-year-old is the JD(S)-BJP candidate in Hassan in the ongoing general elections in India.
He has denied all the allegations against him and has claimed that the videos that were circulated on social media were doctored.
The decision to suspend the lawmaker was taken at a JD(S) core committee meeting. Following complaints by his former housekeeper, a case was registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, on April 28.
The party has also welcomed a SIT investigation against the Hassan MP. A special investigation team comprising IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh, DG CID Suman D Pennekar, and IPS officer Seema Latkar, have started their work, as per the Hindustan Times.
