US actor and wrestler John Cena, whose stage moves and high-flying actions amazed youths for generations, has retired from competing in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events.
He made the announcement to fans while taking the stage for the WWE Money in the Bank event in Canada.
The 47-year-old said his final in-ring competition will be in 2025 as part of a farewell tour.
Since joining WWE in 2001, Cena has emerged as one of the top stars to feature in wrestling events.
“Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” he told fans in Toronto as quoted by BBC.
Away from wrestling, Cena made his first big screen debut with The Marine (2006) and he subsequently gained praise for his performances in Trainwreck (2015), Ferdinand (2017), Blockers (2018), and Bumblebee (2018).
He starred as Jakob Toretto in F9 (2021) and Fast X (2023) and portrayed Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad (2021) and the eponymous television series (2022–present).
