At least two people died and 20 others were injured after 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai passenger train derailed in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand on Tuesday, media reports said.
The incident took place around 3:43 am in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur division, between Rajkharsawan West Outer and Barabamboo, reported Hindustan Times.
Ambulances and rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately after the derailment. The injured people were provided first aid.
The Ministry of Railways posted on X: “Derailment of 12810 Howrah – Mumbai Mail near Barabamboo station of Chakradharpur Division, Helpline Numbers.”
The incident is currently under investigation.

India witnessed the occurrence of several train mishaps in recent times.
Earlier this month, the Hazarduari Express collided with two cars at a railway crossing in West Bengal.
The incident took place at the Khardah Railway Station. The train was on its way to Kolkata when it collided with a car which had driven on the track. After the collision, the SUC hit another car. No casualty was reported in the incident. However, train service was disrupted on the route for some time.
Kanchanjunga Express mishap
At least 10 people died after the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express from Agartala was hit by a goods train in Darjeeling district of West Bengal in June.
The mishap left 40 people injured.
