India’s javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra inched a step forward towards clinching another Olympic medal after he stormed into the final by putting up a dominating show in the qualification round of the Paris mega event.
Neeraj threw an astounding 89.34 meters in one of the attempts which comfortably placed him in the final.
This was one of the best throws of Neeraj in his striking career where he has shattered several records.
It is the best throw achieved by him in any of his qualification rounds.
Neeraj will now participate in the crucial final round on Thursday.
Neeraj is defending his medal which he had won at the Tokyo event.
He had won the gold three years ago with a throw of 87.58m.
He is appearing in his second Olympics.
Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada also put up a remarkable show with a monstrous 88.63m throw on his first attempt.
Jakub Vadljech of Czechia qualified for the final with a strong throw of 85.63m. He had won the silver medal in the Tokyo edition of the games.
He defeated Neeraj by 2cm in the Doha Diamond League this year and it is expected that the sporting field will see yet another clash between the two top competitors in the final outing.
Pakistan’s medal hope Arshad Nadeem qualified for the medal round with a 86.59m throw on his first attempt.
Indian Kishore Jena failed to qualify and finished ninth in the heat.
