SICCI, GCF plan weeklong celebration of Singapore-India ties

To celebrate the symbiotic ties between Singapore and India, Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) along with Dr BK Modi’s Global Citizen Forum (GCF) is organising a weeklong series of events comprising business conclaves/seminars, cultural performances, charity gala event and sports tournament from August 9 (Singapore’s National Day) to August 15 (India’s Independence Day).

Informing about the programme, Dr BK Modi, Founder of GCF, said, “There are interesting programmes during the seven-day schedule. We are expecting the biggest gathering on August 15 when 10,000 people are expected to reach the venue. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev is quite popular in the whole world and he has been chosen because of his background and large following.”

Dr R Theyvendran, Chairman of SICCI, said, “We are organising series of events to celebrate the close relationship between Singapore and India. Singapore is now more actively involved in India than before.”

The event series will start with a “soul-stirring” performance by renowned Sufi singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on August 9 and culminate with New India-Emerging Global leader event on August 15.

On the first day, Singaporeans will be treated to the mesmerising voice of Rahat Fatah Ali Khan in the ‘Music for Peace’ programme on August 9 at the Suntec Convention Centre. The programme will start at 7:30 pm.

The second day is an important one as there will be a conference at the Singapore Smart Innovation Centre. Experts will dwell on the emerging opportunities in India for Singapore and other ASEAN companies. The topics include New India-Emerging Global leader, Smart City-Singapore and India perspective. Further, there will also be discussions on ‘Role of Global Indians as Global leaders’ and ‘Alternative Global Views-BRI/ Maritime Route.’

The exciting event is reserved for the evening when people can meet and greet renowned cricketers participating in the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) Twenty20 tournament from 6 pm onwards. There will also be the premiere of film ‘Adi Shankaracharya’ at REX Cinemas.

From August 11 to 13, Singaporeans will enjoy the SCC Twenty20 tournament in which Muttiah Muralitharan, the legendary Sri Lankan world record holder and Ed Cowan, the stylish Australian left-handed opening batsman, are expected to participate. About eight teams are participating in the tournament including Madras Cricket Club, Melbourne Cricket Club, Sydney Cricket Ground XI, Australia, Kowloon Cricket Club, Rowlin National Cricket Academy, Sinhalese Sports Club, Singapore Emerging Stars XI and Singapore Cricket Club.

On August 13, there will also be a Bridge Tournament from noon to 8 pm. There will be a cocktail party followed by the prize distribution.

A ‘Raksha bandhan’ programme will also be organised at Singapore Innovation Centre on August 13 to celebrate the affection of brothers and sisters.

Singaporeans will learn the intricacies of Yoga and the mantra of remaining fit on August 14 from 7:30 to 9 am. In the evening, there will be a charity ball dinner followed by a ‘Power of Youth’ party which will start from midnight. The event will be organised at National Gallery of Singapore.

On the final day, August 15, people will make another date with yoga through the programme ‘Conquer the World with Yoga’ at the Singapore Innovation Centre.

The main event is reserved for the evening when Singaporeans will interact with mystic Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. The curtain will fall after the performance of the Shiamak Dance troupe. The programme will be organised at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
