Making his debut in the mid 90s, actor Rahul Bose has acted in 50-odd films. The actor, who sat down for an exclusive interview with Connected to India, admitted that he’s selective about his projects, averaging one and a half films a year for 30 years now.
Bose, who was last seen in Berlin — which is streaming exclusively on ZEE5 Global — as Jagdish Sondhi, delivers a commanding performance as an intelligence officer. Set in the politically charged atmosphere of 1990s New Delhi, Berlin is a collaboration between Zee Studios and Yippee Ki Yay Motion Pictures.
Asked if he spoke to officers from the 90s — which coincides with the film’s setting — Bose told CtoI that he didn’t have to. “No, I didn’t have to. You don’t have to. It’s very, very clear that this is fiction. So, fiction it is,” he said.
Berlin is directed by Atul Sabharwal, who has previously worked on projects like Jubilee and Aurangzeb. Bose also praised his fellow actors and the director. Asked what made him give a nod to Berlin, he said, “What made me say yes to Berlin is what made me say yes to my first film, English, August. The story was compelling, the character was wonderful, the co-actors were very skilled, the director seemed to be very good.”
“… if it’s written well and the co-actors are good, nothing much can go wrong. And my role in it,” he added.
Bose, who has performed various roles in his three-decade long career in several acclaimed movies, said he would place the film in the same bracket as some of his other works.
“I’m proud of the movie, I’m proud of the way it’s directed, the way it’s acted, it’s written, it’s edited, it’s designed, the way it’s costumed, scored. It’s a good piece of work. I’m happy with my work and I’m overjoyed to see the work of Aparshakti and Ishwak, who are talented, talented actors and also very fine human beings,” Bose said.
