Middle Eastern airline giant Emirates has banned pagers and walkie talkies, just weeks after a series of communication devices blasts rocked Lebanon. Several flights have also been cancelled due to the ongoing clashes in the region.
The Dubai-based airline made the announcement on October 4. “All Passengers travelling on flights to, from or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie talkies in checked or cabin baggage,” an official statement from Emirates read.
“Such items found in passengers’ hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police,” it said.
The aforementioned blasts, which targeted parts of Lebanon and Syria, took place on September 17 and 18. As per reports, Israel carried out the attack, accounting for the death of over 40 people, which included militants and civilians. Hundreds sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, Emirates have also cancelled flights to and from several Middle Eastern cities amid the ongoing violence.
In a statement, titled ‘Updates on flights to/from Jordan, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon’, the airline informed on October 4 that Emirates’ flights to/from Iraq (Basra and Baghdad) and Iran (Tehran) remain cancelled up to and including 07 October 2024.
Customers transiting through Dubai with final destinations in Iraq and Iran will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until 08 October 2024, the airline said.
