Bengal hospital witnesses 9 twin births in a span of 24 hours

A joy that is shared with a twin is a joy made double. The saying only got a new dimension in a West Bengal medical college hospital, where nine pairs of twins were delivered by nine women within a span of 24 hours this week.

In a rare event, nine women delivered twins between 8 am on Tuesday and 8 am on Wednesday at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, media reports said.

Interestingly, none of the women conceived through assisted reproductive technology, the Times of India reported.

Among the 18 newborns, seven are boys and 11 are girls, the report said.

Although six of the babies, each weighing around 1.5 kg, have been placed in the Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) for observation, both the mothers and all the babies are reported to be in stable condition, it added.
