The Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB) is celebrating 10 years since the inception of its Conference Ambassador Programme. It is an initiative that recognises professionals and think tanks who promote Singapore as a business events destination.
While commenting on the event, Jeannie Lim, Executive Director, Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, said, "It is the steadfast dedication and efforts of these local champions that have helped us build a strong pipeline of meetings and events for Singapore. Over the past decade, we have enjoyed successful collaborations with these passionate individuals, all of whom have been key in securing congresses and shaping Singapore's reputation as a leading business events destination,"
One of the oldest members – Professor B V R Chowdari, President of the Materials Research Society, who was part of the inaugural batch of Conference Ambassadors, said, "CAP provides essential support for non-professional conference organisers to plan for bids or organise international conferences in Singapore. Over the past 10 years, the programme has bolstered our expertise and built relationships with various industry professionals."
Launched in 2006, the Conference Ambassador Programme recognises the top minds in different fields and enhances their competencies in bidding for business meetings and international congresses. These industry advocates have been instrumental in securing marquee events for Singapore – in the last three years, they have won bids to host 17 world congresses and international association conventions, which are slated to bring in almost 50,000 visitors and over S$120 million in tourism receipts.
