For the first time in Singapore, pre-school childhood educators will be getting Teacher’s Day off on August 31.
Making this announcement through a press release today, Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) said, “This move aims to recognise and celebrate the passion and commitment of our early childhood educators to their profession.”
It added, “Almost all 1,300 childcare centres have declared they will be closing on Teachers’ Day.”
ECDA said, “Parents of pre-schoolers support the move and were informed of the closure in advance so they would make arrangements for alternative care.”
Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin announced the Teachers’ Day initiative last October as part of the launch of the Early Childhood Manpower Plan.
Speaking about the initiative, Tan said, “I am very heartened to see the strong support from pre-schools and parents for Teachers' Day. It strongly affirms the important role that our early childhood educators play in developing our youngest children.”
Meanwhile, to recognize the importance of pre-school teachers, Association for Early Childhood Educators and social enterprise- Preschool Market are also presenting a thank-you kit to all early childhood educators, with discounts and special treats from participating merchants.
