The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has launched PIXEL Studios, for digital content creators and media professionals to explore innovative ways of content creation and storytelling. The first dedicated facility in Singapore will be managed by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).
While addressing the media, Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information, said, “Through the programmes, facilities and resources available, this will be a common place for content creators to meet with like-minded people from diverse backgrounds, across the media and tech sectors and experiment with new ways of media content creation and storytelling.”
The 25,000 sq ft space located at the Pixel building in one-north, is one of IMDA’s PIXEL (Promising Innovations and Experiential Learning) innovation spaces.
PIXEL Studios aims to build a community of creators and create opportunities for collaboration across the creative ecosystem by providing a full suite of facilities and resources backed by capability development programmes with industry partners.
The studio will have production equipment like green screen studio, video recording, post-processing equipment and thematic spaces, which can be used as film sets.‘Film-friendly’ zones will be designated in one-north, which will help filmmakers to get filming permission easily.
Pixel Studio also plans to collaborate and run programmes for content creators, and game developers by partnering with industry partners. The first being Spark By Maker – a joint workshop with digital media brand Maker Studio and another a game accelerator programme developed with goGame to help game developers.
