Pro-Khalistan supporters breach Jaishankar’s security in London

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar faced a security scare after suspected pro-Khalistan members rushed towards his car in London and tore apart the Indian national flag.

Jaishankar is currently on a two-nation tour.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday after Jaishankar attended an exclusive event hosted by Chatham House in collaboration with the High Commission of India.

Videos show pro-Khalistan protestors heckling the Indian foreign minister as he departed from Chatham House following an event, reported WION News.

In the video a man could be seen rushing towards the car of Jaishankar by holding the Indian flag.

The man was heard shouting pro-Khalistan slogans.

Jaishankar’s UK-Ireland visit

S Jaishankar is currently on a two-nation tour to Ireland and the UK.

He will visit the nations from March 4 to March 9.

Jaishankar has already met PM Keir Starmer and discussed the Ukraine issue with him.

He also held extensive discussions at Chevening House with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

According to reports, the two leaders held talks on a wide range of bilateral issues, including strategic coordination, political cooperation, trade negotiations, education, technology, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges, in the talks.

Jaishankar wrote on X: “Held wide-ranging and productive talks with Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy over the past two days at the Chevening House.”
“We discussed the entire gamut of bilateral ties, especially our focus on strategic coordination, political cooperation, trade deal negotiation, education, technology, mobility and people-to-people exchanges. Agreed to formulate the next steps to further strengthen and structure them,” he said.

Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

The Ministry of External Affairs said India and the UK share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The partnership has strengthened across diverse areas, including defence and security, trade and economy, health, education, and people-to-people ties.

Ireland Visit

S Jaishankar will meet his Irish counterpart Simon Harris, and other dignitaries and members of the Indian community during his visit to Ireland on March 6 – 7.

“EAM’s visit will provide renewed impetus to India’s friendly ties with both UK and Ireland,” MEA said.
