He burst into the scene as a young man in his early 20s with the television series Kyun Hota Hai Pyarrr, becoming a favourite among teenagers and young adults in India in 2000s, but over the years Amit Sadh has made a name for himself with a slew of projects, portraying intense characters.
I flew to Mumbai recently, the city of dreams and epicentre of India’s global soft power, to have a sit-down interview with Amit, and kickstart Connected to India’s special Spotlight series of interviews, aimed at bringing exclusive content to millions across the world.
Amit, who got his break by chance, admitted that he wasn’t into acting initially, but ever since then, the Avrodh actor has been trying to hone his craft daily. “Lines, I need to get my lines right,” says Amit, as he decodes his preparation.
The 45-year-old is awaiting the release of his films, crime thriller Pune Highway, scheduled to hit the silver screen on May 16, and Pratap, set for a June 2025 opening.
Pune Highway, which will also feature Jim Sarbh and Manjari Fadnnis, is based on an English play of the same name. The project is helmed by Rahul daCunha and Bugs Bhargava.
In Pratap, Amit, who plays an encounter specialist, will be seen alongside Esha Deol — who will be making her return to the silver screen after a long hiatus — and veteran actor Milind Gunaji.
Asked if he’s feeling the “butterflies” yet, Amit downplays it. “I don’t know, I’ll have to check whether I’m inhuman,” Amit says with a chuckle. “See the focus right now is to do this interview with honesty,” he adds, highlighting his motto of staying in the present, which he has picked up from screen legend Amitabh Bachchan.
Fondly known as Big B, the senior Bachchan shared screen space with Amit in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 3, which released in 2017.
He spoke about Bachchan’s focus and discipline during the course of the filming and gave him his flowers in the interview, calling him “The Last Of the Mohicans”.
