Arguably among the most well known NRIs Sundar Pichai CEO of Google will visit his alma mater IIT-Kharagpur on January 5. He will interact with students and teachers at a function in the campus.
Director of IIT-Kharagpur Partha Pratim Chakrabarti said, “Sundar Pichai, CEO Google and distinguished alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur has expressed his desire to visit the campus in the first week of January, 2017.”
The institute is inviting students to come back to campus on time after the winter break to be able to listen to Pichai. There is no doubt that they will. At an open-air theatre in the campus, the Google man will discuss his past, present and future at a function titled, ‘A journey back to the past to inspire the future’ on January 5.
Pichai had passed out from the elite institute in 1993 with a BTech in metallurgical and materials engineering. He then went on to pursue an MS in Engineering and Materials Science from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School. He joined Google in 2004 as its vice president of product management, where he led the team working on Google’s Chrome browser and operating system, before being elevated as its CEO in 2015.
Pichai had visited India in December last year – his first official visit to India since taking charge as Google chief executive in October 2015. He had addressed students at the Sri Ram College of Commerce in New Delhi in a unique 'Ask Sundar' session, hosted by cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle.
He had announced that Google is strongly considering naming their next Android software after an Indian dessert."I think we can make it happen," he had said, which invoked loud cheers from the crowd.
Pichai will also host an event on January 4, 2017, in New Delhi on small and medium businesses, which will be attended by Union Minister for Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad and other senior officials.
