Giving a fillip to connectivity, direct flight services between Singapore and Amaravati, the new capital city of the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh will commence within 30 days, asserted Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while talking with reporters in a press conference in Vijaywada.
Singapore Airlines will operate the direct flight between the two cities, said Chief Minister in presence of Singapore Minister for Information and Communication S Iswaran. The decision was taken at the third Joint Implementation Steering Committee (JISC) organised at Amaravati in which both Naidu and Iswaran participated.
As Singapore companies are actively involved in the development of Amaravati city, the need for flights was even more, said Naidu.
“International flights are essential for the development of any city. Direct flights to Singapore will also connect us to the world,” he added.
Recently, a survey was conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation in which over 63,425 citizens favoured introduction of flights between Amaravati (Vijaywada airport) and Singapore. International status was accorded to the Vijayawada airport last year.
The decision to operate direct flights between Singapore and Amaravati was taken as a World Cities Summit is going to be organised in Singapore from July 8 to 10. Chief Minister Naidu will be speaking at the Mayors Forum (July 8) and the Plenary Opening Session (July 9).
During the third JISC meeting, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and Singapore-Amaravati Investments Holding Ltd (SAIH) signed a Concession and Development Agreement (CADA) to develop the start-up area in Amaravati. Singapore will also help in setting up of start-up companies in Amaravati.
