Air India Express is soon going to introduce a flight connecting Dubai with Vijaywada, an important city in Southern India. This will be the first flight of the airline as it going to launch its services from Vijaywada’s fast expanding Gannavaram Airport.
Air India Express is an economy airline with international standards. A team of Air India officials recently visited the Vijaywada Airport and expressed satisfaction at the facilities developed here. The inaugural flight will be connecting Vijaywada to Dubai via Mumbai.
The Vijayawada airport will have 10 counters — five each for arrival and departure — to help initiate the immigration process. The authorities are awaiting the release of immigration notification of the airport after which the counters will be set up.
Soon after receiving the notification, a team of officials from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will arrive at the airport at Gannavaram to install the necessary apparatus such as servers to carry out the checking process with available data such as fingerprints and photographs.
The Gannavaram Airport of Vijaywada caters to the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region. The Airports Authority of India is developing and making infrastructural changes to the airport. Its runway was extended in 2011, allowing for the operation of bigger aircraft and a new terminal, built at a cost of INR1370 million, was inaugurated in January 2017.
