E-commerce giant Amazon announced on Friday that it will launch an online pharmacy in India, serving the city of Bengaluru.
“Amazon Pharmacy” will provide both over-the-counter and prescription-based drugs, basic health devices as well as traditional Indian herbal medicines, according to a company statement.
Regulations for e-pharmacies providing online drug sales are not yet finalised in India. However, there has been a rise of online sellers such as Medlife, Netmeds, Temasek-backed PharmEasy and Sequoia Capital-backed 1mg.
In July 2020, Amazon decided to open 10 new warehouses in India, started offering auto insurance and even got clearance for alcohol delivery in one Indian state, as per Reuters.
