BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is en route to Dubai as he left India on Wednesday to oversee preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League. The 2020 edition of the IPL was shifted to the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic and is set to begin on September 19 with all eight teams training in bio-secure bubbles.
"My first flight in 6 months to dubai for IPL… crazy life changes," posted Ganguly on Instagram with a picture of himself wearing a mask and face shield – part of the Standard Operating Procedure while flying amid the pandemic.
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel is already in Dubai, along with certain other key officials.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of the cash-rich league.
There will be no fans in the stadiums to watch the matches though there is a possibility of allowing crowds in the latter stages of the tournament, depending on the COVID-19 situation. The IPL will be played at three venues – Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
