Bengal Pro T20: Sobisco Smashers Malda & Murshidabad Kings declared joint-winners as rain washes out play

The final of the inaugural season of Bengal Pro T20 League had a rather underwhelming finish, as the rain gods had the last say. With enough time wasted and no reserved day allotted for the all-important game, Cricket Association of Bengal, the organisers of the domestic T20 tournament, had to declare both Sobisco Smashers Malda and Murshidabad Kings as the joint winners.

Earlier, Murshidabad captain Sudip Kumar Gharami won the toss and elected to bowl first. His bowlers responded in spectacular fashion, picking up wickets regularly to restrict the opposition to 116 runs for the loss of eight batters in 20 overs.

Ranjot Singh Khaira (21) and Saurabh Singh (20) were the pick of the Malda batters.

For Murshidabad Kings, Dilshad Khan and Jeet Thakur bagged two wickets each.

In reply, chasing the target, Murshidabad Kings were 7 for no loss in 1.1 overs when play was stopped due to heavy rain.

With the weather showing no signs of improvement, the match was abandoned, and both Sobisco Smashers Malda and Murshidabad Kings were declared joint-winners.

In the other final, where the women locked horns, Kolkata Tigers won against Murshidabad Kueens by five runs.
