Ritu’s father Mahavir Singh Phogat and her sisters Geeta and Babita rose to global fame when the 2016 blockbuster Bollywood movie Dangal, starring Aamir Khan was made based on their lives. Dangal was the real-to-reel story of the wrestling coach who raised his daughters to become champions.
Commonwealth Wrestling Championships Gold medalist, Ritu Phogat, who could have made an impact at the upcoming Olympics, has instead turned to MMA.
She is determined to make history not just by carving a career in this format, but winning gold in MMA, the fast-growing contact sport, which is yet to take off in India.
