A 71-kg cake, a 'Know NaMo' quiz and congratulations pouring in from around the world marked the 70th birthday of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Social media was full of posts from world leaders to politicians to Bollywood celebrities, with #HappyBirthdayPMModi and #Modiat70 some of the trending Twitter tags.
Wishes poured in for PM Modi from top dignitaries across the world, President Kovind, the Vice President, Union ministers and leaders across the political spectrum. Russian President Vladimir Putin in a letter written to Modi, said he values the kind, friendly relations that have developed between the two over the last few years.
“Kindly accept my heartfelt congratulations on your 70th birth anniversary,” he wrote.
"Please accept my warmest congratulations on the occasion of your 70th birthday. I am happy to take this opportunity to thank you for our trustful and constructive cooperation," German Chancellor Merkel said in her letter to Modi, also vowing to work together to overcome the challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic.
Bollywood stars such as Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Kangana Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Abhishek Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh shared their dedications on the occasion, as did Indian sportspersons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble wrestlers Sushil Kumar and Sakshi Malik, .
The BJP has also organised a week-long ‘Seva Saptah’ in which programmes pertaining to cleanliness, distribution of sanitation pads, wheelchairs and social service are being organised from September 14 to 20 across the country.
