Contemporary carnatic and Indian classical rock band AGAM are back for Kalaa Utsavam 2019 and this time you can catch them in a brand new avatar. In a special performance conceptualised by award-winning producer Sai Shravanam, AGAM will team up with hindustani classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty for a collaborative segment that re-imagines the familiar tunes of both artists. AGAM will also perform their popular favourites and hit songs.

Based in Bangalore, India, AGAM is a multi-award-winning, genre-defining rock band, who are pioneers in the genre of carnatic progressive rock. The name AGAM is derived from the ancient Sanskrit word which translates to “The Inner Self”. Their music combines the melodic scales and intricate rhythm structures offered by Indian classical music with the aesthetic principles and tonal elegance from the Western world. 

The band, which will be performing at Kalaa Utsavam for the third time, has released two studio albums The Inner Self Awakens and A Dream to Remember. 

Collaborating with them for a special treat for music lovers is Kaushiki Chakraborty, a celebrated Indian classical vocalists. Her concerts showcase her unique mastery over khayal and thumri styles of hindustani classical vocal music. Kaushiki is one of the finest interpreters of the Indian classical style, completely devoted to the music and its spiritual depth.

The special collaboration between AGAM and Kaushiki has been conceptualised by Sai Shravanam, one of the few classically trained sound designers in India. Sai has been composing for background scores in theatre, instrumental and vocal albums, re-recordings and films since 2004.

In 2012, his versatility fetched him recognition as a Sound Recordist/Additional Engineer for the Academy award winning film Life of Pi, directed by Ang Lee.
