New products embrace an imperfect style that makes room for nature and relaxation
Swedish furniture and interior decoration firm IKEA is launching new collections and products this April in Singapore. In line with the market demand, the upcoming collections reflect themes and needs that Singapore residents will find soothing and desirable.
"This month we’re happy to introduce products that help to reconnect with the senses. The launch brings nature indoors or expands the living space outdoors," an IKEA statement said.
APRIL NEWS
The April News furnishings series provides furniture and accessories for the entire house, from the garage to the bedroom. IKEA products are available for all homeowners’ needs, be it cooking, sleeping or storage.
“Warm and earthy tones are key elements in our April News collection, as we embrace an imperfect style to make room for nature and relaxation,” said an official company statement.
For the living room, IKEA has the generous GRÖNLID sectional sofa, offering long-lasting comfort in a multitude of colours and combinations. It can fit even the tiniest of homes.
The BJÖRKSNÄS bedroom series is made from solid birch that is integral to the Scandinavian design. A neat and airy look, characterised by fine craftsmanship and hard-wearing natural materials paired with the new organic HIDRASUND pocket spring mattress creates a truly healthy sleep environment.
IKEA is also launching the PLATSA storage system with plans “to meet the needs of the ever-changing modern home”. Lightweight and featuring wedge dowels to click parts into place, the easily assembled system can be configured in different ways according to the customer’s needs.
The collection also includes complementing textiles and decorations for the home to help set the tone matching IKEA’s products for home interiors.
HJÄRTELIG
Keeping in mind trends concerned with health and well-being in the Lion City, IKEA’s wellness collection HJÄRTELIG offers a wide range of products. It focuses on products with a light and peaceful feel to help one relax and refocus, while also ensuring they are durable and multi-functional for everyday use.
The designers of HJÄRTELIG collection are Andreas Fredriksson and Maja Ganszyniec. “With the HJÄRTELIG collection, we want to reach all your senses. Namaste,” said Maja Ganszyniec.
Unique to this collection is the use of natural materials with qualities to stimulate the senses, including 100% sustainable IKEA cotton, rattan, linen, cork and pine allowing for a pleasant, restful atmosphere to reconnect with your inner self or relax and deal with the stress of modern living.
From a multifunctional bed to a yoga kit for comfortable workouts, HJÄRTELIG has a product for all moments, even the smallest ones.
INDUSTRIELL (Limited Edition)
Together with Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek, IKEA said it has “married the intimacy of handcrafted design with the efficiency of mass production to produce beautifully imperfect, unique products on a large scale”.
"The biggest challenge was how to keep the imperfections that give craft objects their individuality,” Piet said. “It was very difficult to persuade people in the factories to suddenly embrace what they usually perceive as mistakes."
Every item is crafted to have subtle variations for distinct personalities. New manufacturing approaches were developed for working with the materials in the collection, ranging from handcrafted moulds for ceramic vases to skipping the straight-line embroidery technique for textiles in favour of hand-drawn like designs, to give a handcrafted feel to the products.
Ultimately, the INDUSTRIELL collection is designed to bring a warm, human feel to homes and offer IKEA’s customers a wider range of choices to reduce homogeneity.
