If the weather permits, you will be able to catch the first glimpse of flying taxis in Singapore on October 22, 2019.
The Volocopter 2X air taxi will fly over the Marina Bay in a three-minute manned flight at noon that day.
According to media reports, Volocopter intends to start accepting its first paying passengers within the next two to three years.
The company said it had been conducting closed-door trials at Seletar Airport to test the passenger drone’s performance in Singapore’s hot and humid weather. The trials also demonstrated the feasibility and safety of the aircraft to authorities.
In collaboration with its infrastructure partner Skyports, Volocopter will also be displaying the world's first full-scale VoloPorts prototype. VoloPorts are the physical landing pads for air taxis. They will merge with their surroundings, allowing passengers and passers-by to see through the whole structure.
A full-scale model of the Volocopter 2X air taxi will be on display in the VoloPort prototype at the Float @ Marina Bay.
The showcase is being organised as part of the 26th Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress happening in Suntec Convention Centre from October 21 to 25. Themed 'Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities', the congress is co-hosted by Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) and Intelligent Transport Society (ITS) Singapore.
