Mustafa's Serangoon Plaza wing in Singapore has closed paving the way to a 19-storey complex called Centrium Square. This new swanky complex will have offices, medical suites, and retail stores.
The last day of operation at the Mustafa Serangon Plaza was nothing less than a celebration. While upper floors of the building were sealed off and emptied out, the first floor was packed with products on clearance sale. Goods like bedlinen, clothes, toiletries, and luggage all were on sale with heavy discounts.
Regular shoppers at Mustafa couldn’t have enough of this golden opportunity. People flocked into the store to fill their trolleys with heaps of clothes and toiletries. Even the checkout queues were long enough, keeping cashiers and packers on their toes.
Both shoppers and workers have an emotional bonding with the store that was opened in the 1980s. However, Mustafa’s main store will be in operation.
Reportedly, none of the employees is losing the job. 180 Serangoon Plaza employees, out of the total strength of 1650 will be transferred to the main store.
