Singapore-based DBS Group CEO Piyush Gupta won the Global Indian Award of The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence.
The awards recognise exceptional achievement in meeting consumer needs, creating value and beating the competition, an official statement read.
This year, winners of as many as five of the nine award categories are from the field of finance: Company of the Year HDFC, Emerging Company of the Year ICICI Lombard, Lifetime Achiever Aditya Puri of HDFC Bank, Global Indian Piyush Gupta of DBS Bank and Business Reformer Shaktikanta Das, RBI governor.
An alumnus of St Stephen’s and IIM Ahmedabad, Gupta, who has spent close to two decades in South East Asia, gave credit to his Indian roots for his continuing success.
Gupta, CEO and Director, DBS Group was one of the first banking sector honchos to usher a forceful, bank-wide digital transformation. Under his leadership, the largest bank of South East Asia has scored major victories, which include the best digital bank in the world by Euromoney magazine and recognition as the safest bank in Asia by New York-based trade publication Global Finance for nine consecutive years.
In an earlier interview with Connected to India, Piyush had said his most significant accomplishment as CEO of DBS has been driving a cultural transformation and adding an entrepreneurial spirit to the bank.
