Thousands of posters targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, put up in various parts of Delhi, have triggered a police crackdown in which over 100 cases have been filed and six people have been arrested. Two of the arrested men own a printing press.
In a massive operation yesterday, the police took down nearly 2,000 posters from several places in Delhi. Most of these posters had the slogan "Modi hatao, desh bachao (Remove Modi, save the country)".
A van was also intercepted by the Delhi Police and over 10,000 posters were seized. There are conflicting reports about whether the van was leaving the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters or heading to it.
The 'Modi hatao desh bachao' posters, pasted on the walls in some parts of the national capital, have since been removed.
Responding to the crack down on anti-Modi posters, the AAP accused the Union government of "dictatorship" and asked what was objectionable about the posters.
Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana lambasted AAP over poster row and said, "You put a poster without mentioning a name. But when FIRs are being registered, you start screaming that there is no democracy in the country. Law is doing its work, Arvind Kejriwal Ji."
