He was 36.

The exact cause of the death has not been officially revealed.

Wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp, however, wrote on X: "Bray Wyatt and the people around him were always very kind and generous professionally in my interactions with them. He was an incredibly creative man that cultivated a special following and perpetually excited fans about what was next."

"A wonderful man that will be missed," he said.

The official X page of WWE confirmed his death and mourned his demise with a post: "WWE is saddened to learn that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, at age 36."

"WWE extends its condolences to Rotunda’s family, friends and fans," read the post.

Wrestler-turned-Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson said he was 'heartbroken' after hearing about the death of Bray Wyatt.

"Im heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing. Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with @wwe universe," he said.

"Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling. Still processing losing the goat, Terry Funk yesterday and now Bray today.
My love, light, strength & mana to the Rotunda family and Funk family during this tough, heartbreaking time," the 51-year-old said.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley wrote on X: "RIP BRAY WYATT. This is awful news, just terribly sad for his family, friends and fans. I thought so highly of Bray Wyatt, and was so flattered when he started using the mandible claw for his finisher. He was a true visionary; one of the most compelling presences that wrestling has ever seen."

Describing him as a 'friend', The Miz said: "The world lost a good one today. Bray Wyatt’s story telling ability along with his unique creativity in the ring was a force that kept your eyes glued to the television screen. Windham Rotunda’s fun-loving, free spirit paired with his infectious laugh is what I will truly miss the most. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Rotunda family. Rest well my friend."

Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE’s chief content officer, wrote on X: "Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time."
