Kangana Ranaut has been a divisive figure in Bollywood for some time now. While her acting has received wide acclaim, her alleged behaviour has rubbed people the wrong way in the Hindi film industry. This has also resulted in people dropping out of her projects. However, for first time director Sarvesh Mewara, the experience was different.
Mewara, who directed Ranaut in Tejas, recently sat down for an exclusive chat with Connected to India’s Senior Correspondent Sudipto Maity. The writer-director shared his views about the movie that has started streaming on Zee5Global.
When asked about his experience of working with Kangana Ranaut and how he resolved creative dispute while filming, Mewara said, “There was no dispute at all. The first time when I narrated, she loved the entire screenplay. She was like ‘let’s do it’. It was instant connect and she understood what I wanted to do with the film.”
The director also hailed Ranaut for her guidance and flexibility during the shoot.
Tejas, which tells the story of an eponymous female Indian Air Force officer, played by Ranaut, is inspired by the 26/11 terrorist attack which shook Mumbai in 2008.
The film had its theatrical release on 27 October 2023. Apart from Ranaut, it also stars Anshul Chauhan and Varun Mitra in significant roles.
