EXCLUSIVE: Shift from court to radio station is the turning point in life, says Berlin actor Aparshakti Khurana

Aparshakti Khurana, who is receiving praise for his role as a sign language expert in the film Berlin, has stated that his decision to leave law and pursue a different career has been the turning point in his life. Aparshakti, a budding cricketer, gave up his dreams to study law and then ditched it to take up a job at a radio station.

Several years later, he made his acting debut in Dangal (2016), where he played Omkar Singh Phogat.

In Berlin, Aparshakti plays Pushkin Verma, an Indian Sign Language expert. Ahead of the movie’s premiere on ZEE5 Global, Aparshakti sat down with Connected to India’s Himanshu Verma for a virtual interview. An espionage drama, Berlin is set in the politically charged atmosphere of 1990s New Delhi.

Asked about the turning point in his life, the actor said “My shift from Delhi High Court to the radio station is the turning point of my life.”

Calling the role of the sign language expert challenging, Aparshakti told CtoI that he attended classes for two months prior to the shoot. “Nothing was going in the right direction in terms of learning a new language which is sign language,” he confessed. The actor credited the tutors and said they were present at the time of filming to get the choreography of the fingers right.

“I think after watching the film I can say we all are, you know, extremely proud of what we have done. It’s something very special and very close to our hearts,” he added.
