EXCLUSIVE: Sonakshi Sinha reveals how she resonated with her Kakuda character, Saqib Saleem agrees

Aditya Sarpotdar’s latest release, Kakuda, a horror comedy film, started streaming on ZEE5 Global a day earlier than announced. Slated to stream on July 12, Kakuda surprised fans with an early stream on July 11. Kakuda packs a stellar ensemble cast led by the trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha and Saqib Saleem.

Ahead of the film’s release, Sonakshi and Saqib sat down with Connected to India for an exclusive chat with host Shreya Dave. Recently married, Sona revealed how she resonated with her character in Kakuda.

Sonakshi plays Indira, a girl who believes in science and not in superstitions. When asked about Sonakshi’s relatability quotient with Indira, the actress says: “I’m actually a lot like Indira.”

In Kakuda, Indira races against time to save her husband Sunny, played by Saqib, right after their marriage, as he fails to open the smaller door for Kakuda at 7:15 PM sharp, inviting the wicked ghost — who punishes the man of the house by inflicting a hump on their back that grows until their demise on the thirteenth day. With Sunny’s life hanging by a thread, Indira seeks help from Victor, an eccentric ghost hunter, played by Riteish Deshmukh.

“I’ve recently got married, like Indira. She loves her husband a lot, like Indira. And she’s not superstitious at all,” Sona adds.

Chipping in, Saqib says, “She’s strong, independent, and she has a mind of her own.” Saqib also joked that Sonakshi didn’t have to work hard for the role, as she played a version of her actual self on screen.
