Fans shower Malayalam superstar “Lalettan” Mohanlal with wishes on his 59th Birthday

Lalettan, LalettanMohanlal, HBDMohanlal, HBDLegendMohanlal and other similar hashtags are trending on Twitter as fans shower Malayalam film industry's popular superstar Mohanlal on his 59th birthday. 

The prolific actor has starred in over 300 movies and has delivered multiple box office hits for close to 4 decades.

He started his acting career way back in 1978 with the film Thiranottam but it was the 1980 hit Manjil Virinja Pookkal that kick-started his meteoric rise. 

Compatriot and often compared actor Mammooty released an emotional video to wish Mohanlal saying “I have known him for 39 years". “He calls me Ichakka (brother) and when Lal calls me so, it makes me immensely happy,” said the superstar in a close to 3-minute video. 

Tamil superstar turned politician Kamal Hassan who has several Hindi movies to his credit and has worked with Mohanlal, tweeted his wishes to his "younger brother". 

Prithviraj Sukumaran, who directed and acted with Mohanlal in the movie Lucifer, shared a picture with the actor on Twitter, thanked him and wished him, “Happy birthday Chettan!” (elder brother) 

Popular Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas shared pictures with Mohanlal as he tweeted his wishes. 

Actor Nivin Pauly of Premam fame also wished "Laletta" a happy birthday and shared a picture with him.

Stars from the Telugu film industry such as Junior NTR and Allu also wished the superstar.

Meanwhile the actor, who is currently in Chennai, has been active in the battle against COVID-19 through initiatives such as delivering personal protection equipment (PPE) to necessary areas, which he tweeted about even on his birthday. 

Mohanlal ​has about four other films in the pipeline including horror thriller Odiyan, and Neerali. He was last seen in a cameo in Aadhi.
