In a novel development, a humanoid artificially intelligent robot named Sophia in Saudi Arabia has become the first robot in the world to receive citizenship.
The Saudi kingdom made the announcement of granting her citizenship at the Future Investment Initiative conference.
Feeling honoured to receive the citizenship, Sophia said in a video shared online, “I am very honoured and proud for this unique distinction. This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognised with a citizenship.”
She was also interviewed by Andrew Ross Sorkin in Riyadh. The robot said, “I want to use my Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help humans live a better life, like design smart homes, build better cities of the future, etc. I will do much best to make the world a better place.”
During the course of her interview, she took a dig at Elon Musk and Hollywood movies for portraying artificial intelligence in a questionable light. Sophia is Hanson Robotics' most advanced robot.
