We know it gets a little frustrating when the island turns into a ghost town during Chinese New Year break 😉 so here's what you can do over the long holiday if you are not scooting overseas!
A few times a year, The Istana is open on certain public holidays to allow public a glimpse into where the President of Singapore lives.
A variety of performances are held on the Istana grounds during the Open House. There are also guided tours of the Istana building, conducted by volunteers. Nature lovers can participate in the Nature Guided Walks, where they can learn more about the rich flora and fauna on the Istana grounds.

This iconic event is the largest and most anticipated Chinese New Year event in Singapore. The Bicentennial Edition is an 8-day extravaganza of lights, sights, and sounds to usher in the Year of the Pig.

3. i Light Singapore – Bicentennial Edition
i Light Marina Bay returns in January 2019 with a special Bicentennial Edition curated to the theme "Bridges of Time". Explore a larger festival area this year – as Marina Bay, the Civic District, Singapore River and Fort Canning will all be illuminated with light art installations.

4. Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar CNY Holiday Market 2019
Most malls will be closed over the holiday period, but if you're itching to shop, head down to find little hidden treasures at this bazaar! Tip – come during the sunset hours to catch a magnificent view 😉

5. Chinese New Year Open House 2019: Singapore Philatelic Museum
Usher in the Year of the Boar at the Singapore Philatelic Museum with a fun-filled day with activities. Enjoy Chinese musical tunes on the guzheng performed by Mr Mohamed Faizal, or join a guided tour to discover interesting facts about stamps and how they record history, significant events, heritage and cultures of countries.
Don't miss the lion and dragon dance performances as well!
