French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday tested positive for COVID-19. “The president tested positive for COVID-19 today (Thursday),” the French presidency said in a statement, adding that he had been tested after the “onset of the first symptoms”.

The president will now self isolate for seven days, in compliance with France’s national regulations.

“He will continue to work and carry out his activities remotely,” the statement added, with meetings to be held via video-conference.

Macron will also cancel some upcoming trips.
